VitaFast® Vitamin B12 (Cyanocobalamin) (AOAC-RI) rapid test

Intended use:

The kit is easy to use for the quantification of total vitamin B12 (added and naturally occurring vitamin B12) in food, animal feed and pharmaceutical products.

General information:

Vitamin B12 is extracted from the sample and the extract is then diluted. The diluted extract and the vitamin B12 test medium are pipetted into microbiological wells coated with Lactobacillus delbrueckii subsp. lactis (leichmannii). The growth of Lactobacillus delbrueckii depends on the supply of vitamin B12. By adding vitamin B12 (in the standard/sample), the bacteria grow until the vitamin is exhausted. Incubation is carried out in the dark at 37 °C (98.6 °F) for 44 – 48 hours. Vitamin B12 is quantified by calculating the turbidity in relation to the metabolic/growth intensity of the bacteria in the presence of vitamin B12. The measurement is made with an ELISA reader at a wavelength of 610 – 630 nm (alternatively at 540 – 550 nm).
