1. Intended use

RIDASCREEN® Aflatoxin Total (product code R4701) is a competitive enzyme immunoassay for the quantitative determination of aflatoxin in cereals and animal feed.

2. General information

- Aflatoxins are secondary metabolites of the fungi Aspergillus flavus, parasiticus and nomius. These fungi occur in humid tropical regions and contamination of plant foods occurs in the countries where these crops can be grown.

- Aflatoxin is the most potent natural carcinogen known. Aflatoxin B1 occurs almost always together with Aflatoxin B2, G1 and G2 and is the analyte with the highest toxicity. It is found mainly in maize, peanuts, Brazil nuts, cottonseed and pistachios. Because of the toxicity of these mycotoxins, maximum levels for Aflatoxin B1 and total Aflatoxin in food and animal feed are enforced in EU countries.
