- The presence of UNG (Uracil-N-Glycosylase) is a key feature that removes the risk of carryover contamination from amplicons of earlier reactions. UNG degrades DNA that contains uracil, which is produced only by earlier PCR reactions (when dUTP is used instead of dTTP). This step runs at the start (before Taq is activated), so the result stays accurate and is not affected by contamination.
