Product code: R1091
Packaging: 100 tests/box
RIDA®CHECK (product code R1091) is a surface protein rapid test that helps control the effectiveness of surface cleaning procedures in production and processing environments. This protein rapid test is used to support hygiene monitoring as well as protein screening in general and allergen control.
- During production, protein residues from raw materials or food may remain on surfaces. These should be removed during routine cleaning. However, cleaning activities are not always successful and therefore contamination can persist and may become a cause of health problems in the future.
- The RIDA®CHECK method is based on the detection of protein residues and is independent of ATP. During the test, the sampled protein residues react with an indicator molecule. This interaction causes a colour change of the colorimetric reagent from yellow to green. Depending on the intensity of the colour change (yellow → pale green → green → dark green), the level of contamination can be determined according to the instructions. The size of the sampling area must be approximately 20 cm2 (4,5 cm x 4,5 cm).
- During production, protein residues from raw materials or from food processing may still remain on surfaces. These protein residues are removed by cleaning. However, cleaning work is not always successful and therefore contamination may persist and may become the cause of problems in the future.
- The RIDA®CHECK method is based on the detection of protein residues and is regarded as independent of the ATP method of surface hygiene testing. During the test, the protein reacts with a colour indicator. This reaction lowers the pH, leading to a colour change from yellow to green.
- The level of contamination varies with the colour (yellow -> pale green -> green -> dark green); the increasing level of contamination can be determined from the colour. From the colour we can determine whether the level of contamination in the test area is acceptable (according to the colour levels recorded regularly) in order to decide whether to continue carrying out the cleaning procedure.
Each RIDA®CHECK pack, product code: R1091, contains 50 swabs for 100 tests.
The RIDA®CHECK kit requires no additional chemicals or equipment.
Used RIDA®CHECK tests can be disposed of as ordinary waste, because the chemicals of the reaction liquid are not harmful to humans, animals or the environment. A relevant safety data sheet is included with the product packaging.
The RIDA®CHECK test swabs should be stored at temperatures between 4°C (39,2°F) and 24°C (75,2°F).
Do not use a test swab that is too dry or whose colour has already turned green.
For the RIDA®CHECK kit, no sample preparation is required.
The RIDA®CHECK test swabs are ready to use and can be applied without preparing reagents. Avoid moistening the swab tip with reagent.
1. Open the packaging of the RIDA®CHECK rapid test swab.
2. Hold the swab on one side with one hand and remove the other side of the packaging with the other hand.
3. Take the sample with 1 end of the swab. The remaining part of the swab is not used and must be handled carefully to avoid contamination (Test 1).
4. Return the used part of the swab to its packaging.
5. Open the packaging of the second swab and take a surface sample in a different area (Test 2).
* The size of the sampling area must be about 20 cm2 (4,5 cm x 4,5 cm)
The time for the colour reaction depends on the level of protein residue contamination on the sampled surface. In the case of heavy contamination, the colour change is seen after only a few seconds. In the case of a low contamination level, the time until the reaction ends can last as long as 2 minutes.

* After opening the indicator pack, both swab tips must be used within 1 hour.
- Between the 2 tests, test 1 and test 2, no more than a maximum time frame of 1 hour may pass. This is because the test swab contains alcohol, which is volatile and evaporates over time after the pack is opened. When the swab tip dries out, the test result is inaccurate.
- The surface swab test is an easy-to-use method that provides fast and reliable analysis results. Using our bioavid swab test is very simple and can be handled by untrained staff. All bioavid test kits can be stored at room temperature and are therefore the ideal tool for testing directly at production facilities. bioavid test kits contain the complete equipment for the analysis.
- The surface size of the sampling area must be about 20 cm2 (4,5 cm x 4,5 cm).
- The time for the colour reaction to develop depends on the level of protein residue contamination on the sampled surface. In the case of a heavily contaminated surface, the colour change will only be visible after a few seconds. In the case of low contamination, the colour change can take up to 2 minutes.
The results must be interpreted after the colour has finished developing. In the case of surface contamination with protein residues, the colour changes from yellow to green. The relative level of surface contamination can be determined using the scale below:

A 'clean' result showing yellow indicates that the amount of protein is below the detection limit of 20 μg.
