Soya allergy rapid test kit | RIDA®QUICK Soya R7103

1. Intended use

- RIDA®QUICK Soya (order code R7103) is an immunochromatographic test for the qualitative detection of soya contamination (native and processed) on surfaces (swab test for hygiene control in production and in the laboratory) and in food (biscuits, margarine, chocolate, sausage). The test has been developed to detect low amounts of soya (contamination).

- All the instruments and swabs are supplied with the product kit. To test food samples, the customer needs to purchase the additional buffer solution for soya extraction RIDA®QUICK (R7113).

2. Information about soya allergy

- The allergen can be present as an ingredient or as contamination in raw and cooked products. Under Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011, soya and soya products must be declared on food labels. Similar regulations also exist in the USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. Soya (mature seeds, raw material) contains approx. 40% protein.
- Soya is therefore widely used to replace protein from animal sources (for example in tofu, soya milk or soya yoghurt). Besides its high protein content, soya is also rich in fat (around 20%) and is used to produce oils and fats. The use of soya as food and animal feed has increased sharply over recent decades, leading to a rise in allergic reactions.

- Soya allergy and products made from soya are a common type of food allergy. Most cases of soya allergy occur in infants and are discovered by parents when the child reacts hypersensitively to soya formula. Most children who are allergic to soya outgrow it over time, although some cases may remain allergic into adulthood.

- The symptoms of mild soya allergy include skin rash and itching in and around the mouth. In rare cases a anaphylactic shock may occur, which is serious and life-threatening.

- Being allergic to soya means having to avoid all products of soya origin. There are many foods today that can contain soya, such as soya milk products, tofu, meat, cakes, sweets and breakfast cereals.
