Soy allergy rapid test kit | bioavid Lateral Flow Soy incl. Hook Line | R-Biopharm
Manufacturer: R-Biopharm
Origin: Germany
Product code: BLH712-15
Packaging: 15 tests/box
The soy allergy rapid test kit (product code BLH712-15) with hook line effect from bioavid is a lateral flow immunoassay for the qualitative and sensitive detection of raw and processed soy residues on surfaces (for example swab testing to control hygiene in food production lines), in cleaning/process water (CIP water) and in food samples. The integrated hook effect prevents false negative results for highly positive samples.
**NEW**
The test kit contains everything needed for the analysis. Only for the preparation of food samples are additional materials required (blender and centrifuge/filter set).
- Soy (ripe, raw beans) contains around 40% protein. Soy is therefore widely used to replace protein from animal sources (for example in tofu, soy milk or soy yoghurt). Besides its high protein content, soy is also rich in fat (around 20%) and is used to produce oil and fats.
- The use of soy as food and animal feed has increased sharply over recent decades, leading to more allergic reactions. The allergen can be present as an ingredient or as a contaminant in raw and cooked products. To date there is no cure for food allergy. The only effective treatment is a strict diet avoiding foods that contain soy. It is therefore all the more important to avoid cross-contamination, which can lead to allergic patients consuming it accidentally. Under Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011, soy and soy products must be declared on the food label. Similar regulations exist, for example, in the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
- To avoid allergic reactions, the safety of food is ensured by labelling allergenic ingredients. However, a high risk remains from the unwanted presence of allergens caused by cross-contamination during food processing. It is therefore important to avoid and to detect cross-contamination (for example from residues on the production line). bioavid rapid tests can be used for many different applications to detect cross-contamination. For example, incoming raw materials or the hygiene effectiveness of a production facility can be tested.
- A major challenge for safe and rapid LFD analysis is false negative results caused by very high allergen concentrations in the test sample. The so-called "high-dose hook effect" (or "overload effect"; Standard EN 15633-1. 2019) is observed when a very large amount of the analyte is present in the sample. In this case the development of the test line can be inhibited and there is a risk that the test result will be misjudged as negative (or the analyte will not be detected). The hook line on the test strip makes this effect visible. A missing hook line indicates a high allergen content in the sample and can no longer be assessed as negative. The evaluation card for the bioavid test strip with hook line can be downloaded here.
- The bioavid allergen test strips are an easy-to-use method and allow rapid and reliable analysis. The application is very simple and can also be carried out by people without laboratory knowledge. The handling of all bioavid parameters is identical and can be downloaded here as a leaflet. All test kits can be stored at room temperature and are therefore ideal tools for testing directly on site, in production facilities or for rapid food testing.
- Samples with intense colour (for example coffee, tea, spices, wine), containing polyphenols/tannins, oil or acid/alkali (for example fruit juice) should be extracted with absorbent buffer (product code BS810-15). This buffer decolourises or neutralises the solutions to avoid false positive results and minimises the effect of the sample matrix.
- For the analysis of non-validated samples, the document “Validated solid sample testing SOP” (standard operating procedure) can be used. We also offer a paid service to validate non-validated sample matrices.
- Prevention is better than cure: includes a hook line for safe identification of highly positive samples.
- Uniform procedure for all bioavid parameters.
- Easy management with the RIDA®SMART APP allergen management software (more information).
- Versatile: suitable for surface testing, water samples and CIP food (raw and processed).
