1. Intended use

RIDASCREEN®FAST Soya (product code R7102) is a sandwich enzyme immunoassay ELISA kit for the quantitative analysis of native and processed soy protein allergen in food. These products are beverages and foods such as sausages, sauces, bakery products, ice, chocolate, soups, sauces, margarine,....

2. General information

- Soy protein can be present as an ingredient or as a contaminant in raw and processed products. Under Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011, soy must be declared on the food label because it can cause allergic reactions. Similar regulations also exist in the USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

- Soy (mature beans, the raw material) contains approx. 35% protein. Soy is therefore one of the few plants regarded as a valuable source of protein. Soy is thus widely used to replace protein from animal sources (for example in tofu, soy milk or soy yoghurt). In addition to its high protein content, soy is also rich in fat (around 20%) and is used to produce oil and fats. The use of soy as food and animal feed has risen sharply over recent decades.
