1. Intended use

RIDA® QUICK Zearalenon RQS (code R5504) is a rapid mycotoxin test kit for Zearalenone, used for a quantitative strip-format immunochromatographic assay to determine the zearalenone content in maize. Results are evaluated with the RIDA®SMART APP software or with the RIDA SMART BOX device.

2. General information

The mycotoxin zearalenone is formed by fungi of the genus Fusarium. Zearalenone is a phytohormone that shows mainly oestrogenic, besides anabolic, properties. Because of its oestrogenic character, zearalenone can cause reproductive disorders in animals with clinical signs of hyperoestrogenism – one aspect of the disease that is reported mainly in pigs but has also been described in other species such as cattle, horses and sheep. The potential health risk to humans from this mycotoxin, absorbed in food of plant or animal origin, has been widely discussed.
