Milk allergy ELISA test kit | RIDASCREEN®FAST Milk R4652
Manufacturer: R-Biopharm
Origin: Germany
Product code: R4652
Packaging: 48 wells/box
- RIDASCREEN®FAST Milk (R4652) is an ELISA kit using a sandwich enzyme immunoassay for the quantitative determination of milk protein (casein and ß-lactoglobulin) in foods containing whey, milk or milk powder such as sausages, ice cream, chocolate, baked goods, cake mixes and bread, soups, sauces, dressings and beverages (fruit juices, wine, beer). Specific antibodies detect casein as well as β-lactoglobulin in cow's milk, sheep's, goat's and buffalo's milk. Test results are quantitative if the sample contains milk or milk powder.
- If quantitative results for casein and/or β-lactoglobulin are required, the sample must be tested in RIDASCREEN®FAST Casein (R4612) and/or RIDASCREEN®FAST β-lactoglobulin (R4912).
- A milk allergy must be distinguished from lactose intolerance: in the case of intolerance, the symptoms are caused by a particular sugar (milk sugar, lactose). In the case of an allergy, however, they are caused by certain proteins in milk. A milk allergy is an allergy in the classical sense, that is, the immune system reacts against a substance that is in fact harmless to the body and allergic symptoms arise. Milk is consumed directly, as a drink or in processed products such as ice cream, butter, yoghurt or cheese. Cow's milk powder is widely used in baked goods, sauces and desserts.
- Cow's milk contains 3.2% protein, of which 10% is β-lactoglobulin (the leading whey protein) and 80% is casein. Casein is heat-stable, whereas ß-lactoglobulin is heat-sensitive. Most people with a milk allergy are allergic to both protein fractions in milk. The most important allergen in children is β-lactoglobulin, while casein becomes predominant later in adults. The allergen can be present as an ingredient or as contamination in raw and cooked products. Under Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011, milk and milk products must be declared on food labels. Similar regulations exist in the USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. Milk contains about 3.2% milk protein. A sample containing 1 mg/kg milk protein therefore corresponds to a milk content of approximately 31 mg/kg milk.
- The kit is certified by the AOAC-RI organisation under number 101501.
- Specificity: no cross-reactivity was observed in many sample matrices (86).
- Validated for automation.
The RIDASCREEN®FAST Milk ELISA kit has been approved and certified by the AOAC SM Performance Tested Methods programme and the AOAC Research Institute awarded PTM Certification No. 101501 . The internal validation data were confirmed by an independent laboratory. The sandwich ELISA is applied to detect milk protein (casein and β-lactoglobulin) in biscuits, chocolate, ice cream, infant formula and sausages.
