Immunoaffinity column for the simultaneous analysis of DON, Zearalenone, T-2/HT-2 | DZT MS-PREP®

1. Intended use

- The DZT MS-PREP® immunoaffinity column (order code RBRP73) contains monoclonal antibodies with high specificity against the DON, zearalenone, T-2 and HT-2 toxins. The columns not only clean up the sample but also selectively purify the mycotoxins. After extraction of the sample with methanol/water and subsequent filtration, the sample extract is applied to the immunoaffinity column.

- If the relevant mycotoxins are present in the sample, they will be bound by the corresponding antibodies. The columns are washed and the mycotoxins are eluted with methanol. The eluate obtained is then used for analysis by LC-MS/MS.

2. General information

- DON, zearalenone, the T-2 and HT-2 toxins belong to the trichothecene group, the group of Fusarium fungi that produces the largest amount of mycotoxins. DON is also called vomitoxin because it causes nausea in pigs and other animals. In some cases food poisoning has also been reported in humans in connection with cereals contaminated with DON. DON is often found together with zearalenone in wheat, barley and maize. Zearalenone is an oestrogenic substance that can cause corresponding symptoms in pigs, cattle, poultry and rodents. High concentrations are associated with fertility problems, impaired foetal development and embryo death.

- The T-2 and HT-2 toxins are mycotoxins produced by various Fusarium species. These mycotoxins are commonly found in cereals and animal feed and can cause acute symptoms such as nausea, refusal of feed and poor weight gain in livestock and poultry. However, these mycotoxins can also lead to chronic impairment in animals, such as immunosuppression, mouth lesions and lethargy.
