Gifu Anaerobic Medium Broth (GAM Broth) | GAM Broth 05422

- GAM Broth (Gifu Anaerobic Medium Broth) culture medium contains haemin from digested serum and is used for the cultivation of anaerobic bacteria.

- GAM Broth can also be used to detect other microorganisms such as streptococci, pneumococci and meningococci and is suitable for blood culture.

1. Preparation

- Add 59 g of the dry medium to 1 litre of distilled water and heat to dissolve. Distribute the medium into test tubes or bottles and sterilise by autoclaving at 115 °C for 15 minutes.

- To culture anaerobic bacteria, cool the medium immediately after sterilisation (under running water) without shaking. Inoculate the bacteria with a sterile capillary tube or a Pasteur pipette and incubate under anaerobic conditions.

2. Notes

Because the medium contains hemin from digested serum, it is used for the cultivation of anaerobic bacteria. It can also be used to detect other microorganisms such as streptococci, pneumococci and meningococci and is suitable for blood culture.
