1. Introduction to the Easy Plate culture plate

- Easy Plate is a convenient ready-prepared culture plate that needs no preparation or sterilisation. Easy Plate is an easy-to-use alternative to preparing culture media in house with traditional culture plates, saving time and effort and reducing waste.

- Easy Plate YM-R is a ready-to-use culture plate developed by Kikkoman Biochemifa (Japan), designed specifically to test and quantify yeasts and moulds in food, beverages and related products. It is a dry, sterile culture plate that needs no complex preparation steps, saving time in the testing laboratory and improving the efficiency of microbiological analysis.

- Using Easy Plate as a food microbiology test tool – with a volume of only about 1/20 of a conventional petri dish – saves space and lets you carry out more tests in your existing incubator space. Easy Plate is pre-packaged and, right after opening the packaging, you can place the sample suspension on the medium and start incubation.

- The plate is designed as a dry medium sheet that is already set and ready to use immediately, with no need to prepare or sterilise the medium.

3. Principle

- Easy Plate YM-R contains a selective medium developed specifically for yeasts and moulds together with a colour indicator. When the sample is inoculated onto the plate and incubated under suitable conditions, the yeast and mould colonies grow and appear with characteristic morphology, easy to observe and count with the naked eye. The colonies develop a purple colour, which makes them easy to identify and count. If the colour is not clear, incubate for up to 72 hours.

- Easy Plate YM-R produces purple colonies. Yeasts appear as small round colonies with a clear edge.

- Mould colonies spread and form purple colonies with a diffuse edge.
