– Pseudomonas is a blue-pus bacillus (rod-shaped bacterium), a bacterium that commonly causes disease in animals and humans.
– It can survive and grow at low temperatures, and is therefore a spoilage agent of chilled products such as red meat, poultry, fish, milk and dairy products.
– They are ubiquitous in nature and can thrive in soil, fresh water and the marine environment.
– Their ability to survive is based on a wide range of environmental requirements as well as cosmetic and pharmaceutical products.
– Such an increase in bacterial counts tends to reduce the quality and safety of food and, in turn, causes problems with the risk of illness.
– Some species are known for their pathogenic activity while some are opportunistic bacteria for immunocompromised individuals.
– Moreover, Pseudomonas aeruginosa is one of the common criteria in the food and pharmaceutical industries, because of its flexible metabolic capacity and its resilience; one of which is the formation of primary biofilms.
– For that reason, a test procedure for the detection of Pseudomonas aeruginosa is recommended, and the Compact Dry Pseudomonas aeruginosa plate from Shimadzu Diagnostics Nissui brings convenience to the user thanks to the advantage of not requiring the preparation of culture medium chemicals, tools or complex consumables.
– The whole technology used for this Compact Dry Pseudomonas aeruginosa plate is a pre-poured medium. The user only has to extract the sample, pipette it onto the plate and incubate it.
– Simple process, easy to use, no need to prepare consumables or complex equipment.
– Easy to use and no time lost training users.
– The compact dry plate is easy to store thanks to the packaging of 4 plates per pack.
– Results are quite accurate, easy to analyse, and available after 24 to 48 hours.
– Colonies can be isolated for biochemical testing.

– Aseptically weigh 10.0 g of sample or use a pipette to take 10.0 ml (for liquid samples) into a suitable sterile container (for example a sterile sample bag, dilution bottle or Whirl Park bag).
– Add 90.0 ml of diluent to reach a 1:10 dilution and homogenise the sample. Adjust the pH if necessary. The diluent usually recommended is Butterfield's phosphate buffer, maximum recovery diluent and other suitable diluents depending on the BAM.
– If necessary, the sample can be diluted further.
– Open the lid of the Compact Dry plate. Take 1.0 ml of the diluted sample with a micropipette and place it in the centre of the Compact Dry plate. Close the lid of the plate.
– Invert and incubate the compact dry plate under the specific incubation conditions (according to the Microval standard: 37 ± 1°C for 20-24 hours and according to the NordVal standard: 36 ± 1°C for 24 ± 2 hours).
Count the red colonies with a yellow/green halo or the green colonies

The detection limit of Compact Dry PA is in the range of 1 – 300 cfu/plate. If there are more, the sample needs to be diluted.
