– The Compact Dry Ecoli Coliform medium plate is a plate with a pre-poured freeze-dried medium, manufactured by the well-known pharmaceutical company Nissui Pharmaceutical.
– The Compact Dry Ecoli Coliform plate is a medium plate that can test both indicators, Ecoli and Coliform.
– To learn more about this convenient product, we will look at the advantages and the procedure of this convenient medium plate.
– Escherichia coli and coliforms are found in the intestines of warm-blooded animals.
– Not all E. coli are pathogenic, but some strains can be regarded as opportunistic bacteria that infect a host with a weakened immune system.
– Testing for the presence of Coliform and E. coli is important and necessary in the food industry, especially in water quality monitoring.
– For this reason, a test procedure for Ecoli Coliform is recommended; and the Compact Dry Ecoli Coliform plate offers the user convenience thanks to the advantage of needing no preparation of culture-medium chemicals, equipment or complex consumables.
– All the technology used for this Compact Dry Ecoli Coliform plate is a pre-poured freeze-dried agar medium. The user only needs to extract the sample, pipette the sample onto the plate and take it for incubation.

– Simple, easy-to-use procedure, with no need to prepare consumables or complex equipment.
– Easy to use and no time spent training users.
– The compact dry plate is easy to store thanks to its packaging of 4 plates per pack.
– The results are quite accurate, easy to analyse and available after 24 hours.
– Colonies can be picked for biochemical testing.
* Preparing the Compact Dry plate
– Open the aluminium pouch.
– Take out a set of 4 plates, or take the 1 – 3 plates you need and keep the pouch sealed to avoid loss of quality due to light and humidity.
– Write the relevant information in the notes section.
* Sample preparation
– Prepare the diluent (Butterfield’s phosphate-buffered diluents): Weigh 34 g of KH2PO4 into 500 ml of distilled water. Adjust the pH to 7.2 with 1N NaOH. Sterilise for 15 minutes at 121° C.
– Prepare the sample dilution:
– Analyse 50 g of each sample. Add 450 ml of diluent. Homogenise with a sample blender for 2 minutes to obtain a 1:10 dilution.
– Take 1 ml of the 1:10 dilution and add it to 9 ml of diluent. Mix well to obtain a 1:100 dilution.
* Inoculating the sample
– Use a pipette to take 1 ml of sample.
– Open the lid of the plate.
– Inoculate 1 ml of sample in the centre of the plate.
– Close the lid of the plate and take it for incubation.
- Choose plates with 10-150 colonies.
- All colonies that are blue or blue-violet are E.Coli.
- Colonies that are red or pink are Coliforms.
- All colonies that are red, pink, blue or blue-violet are total Coliforms.

- A plate with more than 250 CFU may cause the whole colony area to turn red/pink. In this case the sample needs to be diluted.
- After the results are read, the plate is autoclaved (121 °C/ 30 minutes) before disposal.
