1. Intended use

The sesame allergy rapid test kit (code BLH709-15) with the integrated hook line from bioavid is an immunochromatographic assay for the sensitive and qualitative detection of sesame residues on surfaces (for example swab testing for hygiene monitoring in food production lines), in cleaning and water treatment (CIP water) and in food samples. The integrated hook line helps prevent false-negative interpretation of high-positive samples.

2. General information

- Sesame ( Sesamum indicum ) is used as a raw or roasted ingredient in many different foods. The allergen can be present as an ingredient or as contamination in raw and processed products. Under Regulation (EU) No. 1169/2011, sesame and sesame products must be declared on food labels. Similar regulations exist in Canada and Australia.

- Food allergy to sesame is an increasingly recognised health burden, with symptoms ranging from allergic eczema to life-threatening anaphylaxis. To date, seven different sesame proteins have been identified as allergens (Ses i 1-7). The only effective treatment to protect sensitised patients from allergic symptoms is the strict avoidance of foods containing sesame.
