1. Intended use

- Premi®Test 25 (product code R3925) is a rapid test kit using a microbiological screening assay that detects antibiotic residues, in particular in fresh meat (beef, pork, poultry) in less than 4 hours. The test is sensitive to antibiotics of the following groups: β-lactam, cephalosporin, macrolide, tetracycline, sulfonamide, aminoglycoside, quinolone, amphenicols and polypeptide.

- Premi®Test is an AOAC Research Institute 'Performance Tested Method' for screening penicillin in beef (Certificate No. 060601). In addition, it has been granted 'NF VALIDATION' by AFNOR for the screening of β-lactam, macrolide, tetracycline and sulphonamide in beef, pork and poultry (RBP 31/02 - 04/11).

2. General information

- Treating farm animals with veterinary drugs such as antibiotics leads to drug residues in animal tissues and creates a health risk for consumers of animal food products. Premi®Test is an easy antibiotic residue screening test that allows rapid screening of food products by all members of the food production chain such as farmers, slaughterhouses, meat processors and analytical laboratories.

- Premi®Test is based on the inhibition of the growth of Geobacillus stearothermopilus, a thermophilic bacterium that is very sensitive to many antibiotics and sulphur compounds. A standard number of spores is embedded in an agar medium containing selected nutrients. When Premi®Test is heated to 64°C, the spores germinate. If no inhibitor is present, the germinated spores multiply and produce acid. This is seen as a colour change from purple to yellow. When antibacterial compounds are present in sufficient quantity (above the detection limit), the spores cannot germinate and therefore no colour change is observed.

3. Advantages of the Premi®Test 25 kit
