1. Intended use

RIDASCREEN® Aflatoxin B1 30/15 (product code R1211) is a competitive enzyme immunoassay for the quantitative determination of aflatoxin B1 residues in cereals and animal feed.

2. General information

- Aflatoxin toxins are secondary metabolites of the fungal species Aspergillus flavus , parasiticus and nomius . These fungi occur in humid tropical regions and contamination of plant foods occurs in countries where they can be cultivated.

- Aflatoxin mycotoxins belong to the group of the most potent natural carcinogens. Aflatoxin B1 residues almost always occur together with Aflatoxin B2, G1 and G2 and it is the analyte with the highest toxicity. It is commonly found in maize, peanuts, Brazil nuts, cottonseed and pistachios. Because of the toxicity of these mycotoxins, maximum levels for Aflatoxin B1 and total aflatoxin in food and animal feed apply in EU countries.
