1. Principle of the membrane filtration method
- The membrane filtration method for microorganisms is an important and popular technique for testing microorganisms in water and other solutions, and it has been successfully integrated into testing products such as Compact Dry plates. Compact Dry is a pre-poured dry medium plate that helps test microorganisms quickly and effectively without many complicated preparation steps.
– The membrane filtration technique applied on Compact Dry not only increases accuracy but also helps save time and effort in the testing process.
2. Process of applying the membrane filtration method for microorganisms on Compact Dry plates
- Step 1: first, prepare the compact dry plate, membrane filter, vacuum pump, and the sample solution to be tested, which will be diluted (if necessary) and placed into a membrane filtration system to remove bacteria from the solution.

– Step 2: take out a Compact Dry plate, remove the lid of the plate, then drop 1 mL of sterile purified water into the center of the plate. The water will spread evenly over the plate automatically

– Step 3: Open the sterilized filter package and use sterilized forceps to take out the sterilized membrane filter.

– Step 4: remove the funnel from the sterilized filtering device and attach the sterilized membrane filter

– Step 5: Place the funnel, pour the sample water into the funnel and filter the sample water under reduced pressure.

– Step 6: after filtering the sample, rinse the inner surface of the funnel with 20 – 30 mL of sterile purified water and filter. Repeat the same step two or three times.

– Step 7: remove the funnel and use sterilized forceps to take out the membrane filter. Place the membrane filter on the prepared Compact Dry plate without air bubbles. The "trap" side facing up.

– Step 8: Flip the capped plate over and put it in the incubator for incubation under the specified conditions. After the incubation time, the grown bacteria will form colonies on the plate, and can be counted to determine the microorganism density in the original sample.

3. Advantages of the membrane filtration method for microorganisms on Compact Dry
– High accuracy: the membrane filtration method helps collect all bacteria from the sample and transfer them directly onto the Compact Dry plate, ensuring accurate data with no sample loss.
– Saves time and resources: no medium preparation is needed, Compact Dry can be inoculated right after the filtration process is completed.
– Suitable for many types of samples: this method is particularly suitable for water samples, solutions and liquid foods, where bacterial density is usually low and needs to be concentrated to make testing easier.
4. Applications of the membrane filtration method on Compact Dry plates
– The membrane filtration method on Compact Dry plates is widely applied in many fields such as water, food and beverage testing. Food hygiene and safety testing laboratories, drinking water and beverage factories can all apply this method to ensure product quality and microbiological safety standards.
– The membrane filtration method for microorganisms on Compact Dry plates has been and is bringing effective results in product testing and quality assurance, helping businesses save time and cost and improve accuracy in microbiological testing.
